Club wins at Sports Club of the Year Awards 2011

The Manawatu Triathlon Club won the award for 'Participation Initiative of the Year' in the 2011 Property Brokers Grassroots Sports Awards held on the 23rd of September 2011.  We were also a finalist in the 'Club Event of the Year' category and our major sponsor, Manawatu Toyota, was a finalist in the 'Sports Partner of the Year'

Club members compete in the Auckland ITU Age Group Triathlon 2011

22 Club members recently competed in the Auckland ITU Age Group Triathlon on Sunday 20th November 2011.  Five members competed in the Sprint distance and the remainder in the Olympic distance triathlon.  Congratulations to Hamish Hammond on coming first in the 20-24 year old men.

Fresh off a gruelling week in the New Zealand Cycle Classic in Manawatu last month, Massey University's Steve Stannard won the Wellington-to-Auckland Cycle Challenge, which finished in Pukekohe on Saturday.

After taking the yellow leader's jersey on the first day, Stannard relinquished it for only one day before he got it back and kept it for the rest of the tour. He finished in the bunch in the final stage, more than a minute ahead of the second-placed rider. To top off his successful week, he won the King of the Mountains category, which had been his original target.
