About us
The club was established in 1996. Membership has skyrocketed over the years and has been over 300, most of which are families. The secret to this success is holding events for children, women and the serious athletes.
The club is family orientated and specializes in 8 Triathlons over summer (which includes Family Triathlon Day, Team Challenge and The Ladies Only Triathlon) and 5 Duathlons over Winter and has also run 7 New Zealand Duathlon Championships. Been associated with - The Special K Women's Triathlon, More FM Women's Triathlon, Activ8, Contact Woman's Triathlon and Weetbix Children's Triathlon (marshalling).
The club is associated with a top performing athlete - Kris Gemmell, and in the past Shane Reed (Olympics), Kieran Doe, Tama Christensen and Mark Leishman.
The club has an excellent working relationship with Linton Army Camp and Sport Manawatu. The club runs most of its events on the base.
We run an annual children's Triathlon for 5 Mondays in February/March with over 500 children attending each week. The Weetbix Triathlon will again be here in Palmerston North with our help.
The club continually receives awards for - Event Management, Operational Development, Financial Management, Volunteer Development, Player Development, Community Management, Marketing Management, Sports Club of the year and Club Assist Award. Also our volunteer members have received awards for Volunteer of the year.
The club's philosophy is to create events where all age groups and people of varying abilities can come along, enter on the day and pursue their own goals. Those that want to take the sport further are encouraged and supported and we hope to have more Olympic members in the future.
