I Tri'd the Tri FAQs

If the whole series gets cancelled (eg COVID 19 restrictions) your entry/payment will be forwarded to the following year

If one or more events in the series get cancelled (e.g. severe weather) no refund is provided as one off payment covers the whole series regardless of how many events the child attends.

There will not be additional events - unfortunately we lose daylight and many of our volunteers and families have other Monday afternoon commitments planned.

Event attendance towards the medal will always be based on the number of events run that year minus one (4 out of 5, 3 out of 4 etc).

Check in at registration to get your child(ren)’s race number on their hand for nightly spot prizes and to be eligible for the major prize draw and medal in week 5.

Yes you can. Please come along on the night and register at the new entrants table. $30 each or $90 family

If you are not able to be there on the last night and qualify for medal you can still get in touch re collection by a friend on the night or from us after the final night.

Only children present at final prize giving are able to collect their prize if their name gets drawn out.

Please ensure all kids race in T-SHIRTS/SWIMWEAR COVERING TORSO AND SHOES for safety reasons. 6 Year olds and under are encouraged to have helmet and goggles (neck/wrist) on from the beginning of the race to make their transitions easier.

Come with plenty of time before the race starts to allow kids to familiarize themselves with the course (at least 30 min before the race starts on your first night). Bikes need to be placed in the row marked with your child’s age.

Make sure you pick up your goodies and check for spot prizes after the race (follow the concrete path towards the Manawatu Triathlon Club gazebo.

The races will be held in the following order, please note times are approximate:

5:20 pm 9 year olds
5:30 pm 8 year olds
5:40 pm 7 year olds
5:50 pm 6 year olds
6:00 pm 5 year olds
6:10 pm 4 year olds
6:20 pm 4-5 year olds assisted
6:30 pm 10-12 year olds

Each age group will be called to the start line 5-10 minutes before their race starts

4-6 years 300 m run / 600 m cycle / 1 length swim
7 years 750 m run / 1.5 km cycle / 25 m swim
8-9 years 750 m run / 1.5 km cycle / 50 m swim
10-12 years 1.5 km run / 3 km cycle / 100 m swim
Instructions on the number of laps for each discipline will be repeated to the group of starters after which the boys will be sent off a few seconds ahead of the girls to lessen the congestion at the start.

Unfortunately, we don't have access to the learners pool until 6pm due to swimming lessons taking place. Therefore, we have to race the little kids after the 9-7 year olds - thanks for understanding :)

ENTRY to pool for parents and supporters is through THE CARPARK SIDE DOOR - please do not enter through the main door! EXIT from the pool is through the REAR doors.

Parents are not allowed in transition to help children once racing starts except in the case of the 5 year old and under assisted race.

There are marshals in transition who can assist children finding their bikes and with putting on and removing their cycle helmets if they need. To help your child find their bike please add a decoration, this helps identify bikes when they are similar. We also encourage kids to learn the colour of their bike.

If your child requires special assistance, please come and talk to us before the race and we will try assist in anyway we can.

Transition will be open for bike pick up on and off during the races as the situation allows - please be patient and follow marshalls’ directions

Crankit Specialized van will be close to registration to help with minor bike adjustments.

Please see the pool staff if first aid is needed.

All lost property is collected up after each race and photos are posted on the Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/Palmy-I-Trid-the-Tri-Series-165002316882569/). If you spot something of yours in the photos please contact Lenka (021 0349989) to arrange collecting your lost property.

If your child is 6 years old or younger they can walk in the learners’ pool or hold onto the lane rope and pull themselves along. If they are 7 years old or older there will be volunteers in the pool to help your child and flutter boards available if they are required. We suggest that 7 year olds who are not confident swimmers race with the 6 year olds. You can still register them in the 7 year old group and they will get the right age group tee but line up for the 6 year old race. Going in to have a look prior the race and having a go with flutter board has helped many kids in the past too.

We are happy to change the T-shirt to the right size if we have one available (occasionally it might be another age group colour).

Yes, all children will receive a drink bottle at registration. Spot prizes for the first week are T-shirts. Size and colour subject to availability. If you miss week one you can collect your T-shirt at the registration of the next race – subject to availability.

Red Sox Clubrooms, Tremaine Avenue; Freyberg High School, Freyberg Street; Vautier Park, Puriri Terrace.

If the weather conditions are doubtful on event day, please check our Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/Palmy-I-Trid-the-Tri-Series-165002316882569/) and listen to the cancellation service on radio More FM from 3:00 pm.

We don’t want to stop anyone using their e-bike to participate in our events. We understand that might be the only bike available to the child.

However, the BATTERY MUST BE REMOVED prior to the race to ensure the safety of all the children involved. We can’t risk battery powered bikes being accidentally or voluntarily turned on during the race and cause potentially dangerous or unfair racing conditions.

If your child has any particular needs to successfully compete in our event, please get in touch with us beforehand to address these in advance

We will try to accommodate you as much as we can :)
